I'm a sucker re-enactments!

I can't go to this movie tonight and I really, really want to. In 1939, the Soviet Union looked over its border and decided "those Finns will roll over if we invade them!" Why anyone would want Finland is beyond me, but I am overly influenced by the rampant unemployment and discontent on display in Finnish films like "The Man Without a Past." Anyway...for whatever reason Finland looked weak and desirable to the Soviets so they invaded and the Winter War broke out.

I probably don't have to tell you what happened. If you don't know, a small hint: was Finland ever a part of the Soviet Union? Anyway, there's a movie about it tonight at the fest. It's a documentary called "Fire and Ice: The Winter War of Finland and Russia." It's a blend of interviews, archival footage and (my favorite) re-enactments.

Watch the little guy triumph! I'll be at a screening of "United 93."

The "Winter War" is an excellent movie about that war. I really enjoyed it even thought Iím not from Finland.

I too wanted to attend Fire and Ice. Instead I went to the Bell to see Mountain Patrol; a documentary about a man named Kekexili who was obsessed with hunting down poachers of tibetan antelope. It was good. My question is where can we access these other movies. Is there a local video store or netflix or what?
