There has been a lot of attention given to the finances of the Republican Party. It should be noted, however, that the DFL Party is also facing a debt.
DFL Party Chair Ken Martin said the party has a debt of roughly $210 thousand heading into 2012. Martin said the party had a debt of $750 thousand at the start of 2011.
Of course, the fact that the debt is one-tenth that of the MNGOP's -- or that unlike the RPM, the DFL paid off its recount-incurred expenses and did it promptly -- is not of interest to MPR's readers and listeners. Right?

The DFL debt was reduced from $750,000 last March to $210,000 now. The GOP debt ballooned from $780,000 to $2,000,000 in the same time period.
These are just basic facts which would seem to be relevant to the story even if trying to provide "journalistic balance," no?
In today's media, balance means just reporting that both sides have debt. See, fair. Disregard that magnitude or source of the problem. We have to be Fair and Balanced.
Boy-o-boy...leftists just hate it when someone turns their music off, don't they?
Of course, the GOP is an actual party that takes care of all of its own business. (Badly, apparently, but all inside the house).
Two years ago, the DFL was in major debt, and responded by subcontracting most of the actual business of being a *party* to the Alliance for a Better Minnesota, Win Minnesota, MN Assoc of Non-Profits, Alita Messinger...
...and they're STILL in the hole!
In a year, the GOP will be solvent. The DFL will still be a mess.
Pheonix Woman and Eric: You must assume that the public can't do basic math, because otherwise your objections are pretty silly.
The GOP troubles have been heavily reported. Anyone paying attention enough to see this report is probably already well aware of both the GOP's debt and it's scope. All MPR is doing is reporting the other side.
Or do you not like giving the public both sides of the story???
