Gov. Pawlenty gave a 25 minute speech to the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce today. It was mostly standard fare - cut government spending, no tax increases and improve the state's education system.
Pawlenty's only interesting comments were in the direction of the World's #1 golfer, Tiger Woods. Woods, who has engaged in some questionable transgressions, was the butt of several jokes.
First, Pawlenty was joking about all of the different cell phone plans available.
"There's the friends and no family plan for MN Chamber President David Olson. There's the 'No Roaming plan for Tiger Woods and there's the unlimited talking plan for Joe Biden."
Pawlenty later decried government spending saying "It's like Tiger Woods' wife, we should take a nine iron to the back windshield of big government spending and smash it out." Listen
(Update: Anyone notice Pawlenty has adopted an unusual southern drawl over the past few months?)
Thoughts on the comments?
Cut spending, no tax increases, AND improve education? Why stop there? Why not a magical pony for everybody too, and a Vikings Superbowl berth?
I think maybe these Tiger references may have been relevant a month ago, since Pawlenty has opened another "faucet" (or the possibility of one) this week, maybe he should focus a bit more about his own page in history, then he should about a pro-golfer who clearly has issues.
As much as I hate to say it, Pawlenty needs to focus on Minnesota. 2012 will come in time, but first we have this mess known as the Minnesota budget to deal with and as Governor, the buck stops with him.
Now as for jokes:
Minnesota's elected officials have been smashing the taxpayer's piggy banks with 9 irons for years and years just like Ms. Tiger Woods, unfortunately a house in Europe and a little behavioral treatment won't solve this problem.
Pawlenty's strange southern dialect is interesting. I see he's speaking at some Albama GOP dinner soon. I suppose he's been practicing with a speech coach. He pays attention to that sort of thing. To the details of policy in his own state, not so much.
I find it troubling that an elected official would use domestic violence as fodder for his "act". Pawlenty embarassed himself as well as his state. Tend to the weeds in your own garden Mr. Pawlenty. There is plenty of work to be done in "your house".
