Race for MNGOP Chair

Posted at 6:13 AM on June 13, 2009 by Tom Scheck

I'll be covering the MNGOP State Party Central Committee today. Check back to the blog to see who was elected State Party Chair (read this Pi Press article for background on the candidates). I'll also try to post speeches and detail which gubernatorial hopefuls are making the rounds.

As always, you can follow me on Twitter for info as it happens.

Sutton the new MNGOP Party Chair

Posted at 11:06 AM on June 13, 2009 by Tom Scheck

Republicans have elected private businessman Tony Sutton as its new party chair. The delegates elected Sutton on the first ballot. He received 195 votes, radio personality Dave Thompson received 133 votes and former state Senator Carrie Ruud received 17 votes. Sutton said he's committed to rebuilding the Republican party.

The party chair is a critical part of the political process. Sutton will be responsible for recruiting and backing candidates, organizing grass roots support and turning out the vote in elections. 2010 is a critical year since there's an open race for Governor and every legislative seat is on the ballot.

Brodkorb elected MNGOP Deputy Chair

Posted at 1:28 PM on June 13, 2009 by Tom Scheck

Delegates at the Republican Party State Central Committee elected blogger Michael Brodkorb as Deputy Chair. Brodkorb, who writes for the website MinnesotaDemocratsExposed and is also communications director for Republicans in the Minnesota Senate, said he will not blog when he takes his job on July first. He said he'll focus on improving the party's technology and grass roots efforts.

Brodkorb received 184 votes. He will replace current Deputy Party Chair Dorothy Fleming, who received 125 votes. Bob Swineheart received 30 votes.
