Posted at 9:46 AM on October 30, 2008 by Tom Scheck (2 Comments)

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and GOP Norm Coleman are injecting a lot of last minute resources into Minneosa's Senate race.

A look at ad records at KSTP, WCCO and KARE shows that the DSCC has pumped $1 million in last minute money to help Democrat Al Franken defeat GOP Sen. Norm Coleman. The DSCC increased its last week buy at KSTP by $234 thousand. The political committee also recently injected $241 thousand in ads for the final two weeks of the campaign. The biggest last minute buy was at KARE, $614 thousand for the last two weeks of the campaign.

This is in addition to the other buys already placed. GOP Sen. Norm Coleman is also spending more in the final weeks. He's also pumped an extra $1 million for ads at KARE, WCCO and KSTP. Check all of the ad buy data here.

I-P Senate candidate Dean Barkley's first ad will start running this week. The campaign wouldn't release the ad buy but a local TV official says the total buy is $50,000 in the Twin Cities. The ads will run on WCCO ($22,000), KMSP ($15,200), KARE ($4500), KSTP ($5375). I'm told Barkley's buyer is also looking to spend more money and requested weekend contact information for stations in Minneapolis, Rochester and Duluth.

Here's the ad.

DFLer Ashwin Madia, Republican Erik Paulsen and Independence Party candidate David Dillon met for their last scheduled debate Thursday at the headquarters of UnitedHealth Group in Minnetonka. The questions came from the company's employees and most of them dealt with health care reform. The candidates outlined their positions, stuck to their talking points and avoided direct confrontation. Jud Sommer, senior vice president for government affairs, served as moderator.

The audio is a little rough in places.

The debate was not open to the public.
