Welcome to the special Saturday morning, MNGOP Party convention/Barack Obama in your face edition of the Digest.
Barack Obama is coming to Minnesota. In fact, he's speaking at the same place where John McCain will win the GOP nomination in September. AP, the Pi Press, the Star Tribune and MPR have stories.
DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar campaigned in Montana for Obama.
The GOP tells Obama to bring it on. McCain will be in Minnesota next month for a fundraiser and a possible campaign appearance.
MNGOP Convention
White House advisor Karl Rove and Gov. Pawlenty address the delegates today.
Pawlenty just told the delegates he's proud to be hold the record for most vetoes in a session. He told reporters before his speech that he wasn't sure if McCain was considering him as a possible VP choice.
The Republican Party endorsed GOP Sen. Norm Coleman for a second term on Friday. MPR, the Pi Press, the Star Tribune and AP have stories.
Concerns about Al Franken's past continue to ripple through the DFL Party.
Ron Paul speaks outside of the GOP convention. His supporters leave empty handed. The Pi Press, AP and the Star Tribune have stories.
Forum Communications says not all Republicans are happy.
The Star Tribune says not all DFLers are happy either. A feminist leader wants people to write in Hillary Clinton in November.
2008 Race for Congress
KAAL handicaps the GOP primary in Minnesota's 1st District.
Yesterday, I reported that MDE reported that 6th District DFLer was late in paying property taxes. The DCCC released a statement saying GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann was late in paying her property taxes:
"While spending so much time trying to defend President Bush's failed agenda, Republicans neglected to do their homework on their own candidate's poor tax filing record," said Carrie James, regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Instead of paying her property taxes on time, Michele Bachmann is too busy following around President Bush and introducing the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act."
State Government
A Princeton man pitched a tent outside the Capitol to protest Gov. Pawlenty's veto of a foreclosure deferment bill.
Four southeast Minnesota counties have pulled the plug on a plan to buy affordable health care for low income residents.

Just curious where that item about Bachmann paying her taxes late appeared. No link or story? I haven't been able to find any mention of that anywhere on the internets.

The DCCC issued this news release:
Bachmanns Who Live in Glass Houses Shouldn't Throw Stones
Bachmann fined for paying property taxes late in 2003
National and State Republicans attacked Elywn Tinklenberg for paying his property taxes late without doing their homework. In 2003, Michele Bachmann paid her property taxes late and was fined $156.72.
"While spending so much time trying to defend President Bush's failed agenda, Republicans neglected to do their homework on their own candidate's poor tax filing record," said Carrie James, regional press secretary at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Instead of paying her property taxes on time, Michele Bachmann is too busy following around President Bush and introducing the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act.”
