Gov. Pawlenty will take action on the bonding bill today. He has a press avail at 2:30. Will he veto or line-item veto? It's safe to say that he doesn't like the total size of the bill.

The governor apparently doesn't like a Chatfield provision in the bill.

Conference committees will also start meeting to discuss the budget. It's basically make or break time.

DFLers will also announce a new funding formula for schools today. It will be considered in the 2009 legislative session.

2008 Race for Congress

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann gets endorsed. ECM and the St. Cloud Times have stories. Michele Bachmann's campaign did not allow MPR (or other broadcast outlets) to record the event because they "don't like how audio and video has been edited and and posted on sites like YouTube in the past so we now prohibit media taping."

Norm Coleman Raises Over $2 Million In First Quarter 2008

Kicks Off Reelection Campaign With Nearly $7 Million Cash On Hand

Saint Paul - Having just announced his bid for reelection, Senator Norm Coleman's campaign today announced that it raised over $2 million in the first quarter of 2008, ending the quarter with nearly $7 million cash on hand. The campaign had 4,738 first time donors in the first quarter, including 2,950 Minnesotans. In all, 7,205 Minnesotans gave to Senator Coleman during the first three months of 2008.

"Minnesotan's are embracing Norm's positive vision that brings people together to get things done," said Cullen Sheehan, campaign manager. "Voters are tired of the divisive rhetoric of politicians like Al Franken and want someone who has a history of working across party lines. Senator Coleman believes that some issues are too big for one Party to solve. He is committed to working to ensure comprehensive health care for all Minnesotans, living up to our promise to our nation's veterans and standing up for middle class families struggling with today's challenging economic times. It's the kind of common-sense leadership Minnesotans have come to expect from Senator Coleman."

With this report, Coleman has 23,119 individual Minnesotans contributing to his campaign for re-election and has raised a total of $12.37 million for the cycle.

The Magic 8 Ball doesn't like where we're headed

Posted at 2:06 PM on April 7, 2008 by Tom Scheck

If you listen to me do my Monday morning debriefs, you would have heard me say that this could be a critical week for budget negotiations. I said that it will be a long six weeks if the House and Senate decide to send Governor Pawlenty a budget balancing bill that insists will be vetoed. If they decide to work with him, a more harmonious conclusion to the session could occur.

Fastforward to today's Midday featuring DFL House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher and DFL Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller. Pogemiller did everything he could to rip the governor. At one point, Pogemiller said Gov. Pawlenty was engaging in hyper-partisanship:

"He's upset because some of his pet projects, his pet spending, is being cut. In terms of revenue, other than closing corporate loopholes, no one is talking about significant tax increases here. He has to get off the campaign trail and come back and govern the state of Minnesota."

I consulted with the Magic 8-Ball. It also listened to Midday and said: Outlook not so good
