The Digest is a sleepy head this morning after working into the early morning hours. Gov. Pawlenty and legislative leaders negotiated until midnight last night without on an overall budget agreement. No agreement but tempers were a bit cooler than earlier in the day. MPR, the Star Tribune, the Pi Press and AP have stories.
Pawlenty signed the statewide smoking ban into law.
A watered down car buyer's bill of rights is on its way to the governor.
The Outdoors amendment starts moving again in the House.
The Senate gives final passage to the DREAM Act.
Despite higher prices at the pump some lawmakers are still pushing for a gas tax increase.
Minnesota and China sign a trade memorandum.
Congress
GOP Sen. Norm Coleman urges an end to the Bangladesh emergency.
Coleman and DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar want to end restrictions on the Hmong.
The chairman of U.S. Steel warns about an emissions cap. Klobuchar is mentioned.
Klobuchar also holds a hearing on the sandwich generation.
DFL Rep. Tim Walz and DFL Rep. Betty McCollum support legislation that would help beginning farmers.
He also tells The Hill that he wanted to be an astronaut.
GOP Rep. John Kline says the VA will make nationwide changes after a veteran committed suicide.
The Hill says DFL Rep. Collin Peterson wants his committee to keep a firm grip over the farm bill.
Labor and farm groups are also working to influence the legislation.
DFL Rep, Jim Oberstar, who chairs the House Transportation Committee, doesn't like road lease deals.

The Washington Post says Tom Heffelfinger was on the list of U.S. Attorneys that candidates wanted to be fired.

A potential GOP candidate in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District says he told DFL Rep. Tim Walz about his possible plans to run against him. He was in Washington to lobby Walz on a bill. "Excuse me Congressman. I would really like your support on this project. By the way, I would also like your job." (ba da bing!)
