"The Mississippi is the Father of Waters. The Great Laurentian Highland Divide occurs up near Virginia, Minnesota where three continental watersheds meet. One flows northward to the Artic Ocean, one flows east to the Atlantic, and the other flows southward to the Gulf of Mexico. It is said that a raindrop falling in this spot could end up in any one of these three destinations. For all this water to journey to other places means that Minnesota's elevation has to be higher than neighboring states. Ocean waters themselves once washed over what became Minnesota soil during the glacial period. We have a very interesting geological past here! Stillwater is the oldest city in the state.
