Keeping track of the recount

Posted at 8:45 AM on January 5, 2009 by Julia Schrenkler

MPR News continues to track the story, because it isn't over:

"The Minnesota Canvassing Board is expected to certify Al Franken the winner of the U.S. Senate race at its meeting this afternoon. But a likely legal challenge could leave the state with only one sitting senator for the foreseeable future."

- Midmorning 9:06 a.m. CT: Franken to be certified, but the Senate race outcome still unclear

Is 2009 your year for reading?

MPR's Marianne Combs wonders less about if 2009 is a good year to read, and more about how to go about reading more:

"Once again I find myself at the start of a new year wanting to encourage myself into reading more, but not quite sure as to how to go about it. Should I read all the winners of the 2008 National Book Awards? Or just those that are fiction? Should I again give myself an arbitrary number of books to read this year, only to lose track of the goal? How do I inspire myself to read more, without making it seem like a task?"
She's not alone in the desire to expand her reading reach. In the online discussion Gretchen Lee Bourquin replied in a similar vein, "I don't have a specific goal, but I do want to read more. If only there were more hours in the day!" Meanwhile Darlene B. decided to become more cognizant of her habits, "I love to read, don't keep track. I'll make the a 2009 project keeping track let's me know what sort of books I enjoy the most."

What are your reading resolutions, and how will you go about achieving your goals? Join our online conversation with discussion host Marianne Combs.
