Open discussion: Is infidelity on the rise? Why or why not?

Midmorning's November 19, 2008 program description Infidelity on the rise:

A handful of new studies indicate that infidelity is on the rise, particularly among older men and younger women. Some say the nature of infidelity is changing, with the emphasis being less on sex and more on intimacy.

I wonder if there really are more cases of infidelity, or if the definition has changed... or if our culture is simply more open to talking about it.
