Write and share your music for Songs from Scratch Vol. 2

Posted at 10:33 AM on July 8, 2008 by Julia Schrenkler

Songs from Scratch Vol. 2 is here! The project is meant to show the songwriting path from "a vague idea into a full-fledged tune." It is also your opportunity to create a song for the project.

Create a song inspired by "The Wizard of Oz" and incorporate Adam Levy's lyrics:

From the ends of the earth to your own back yard, Mouth and mind drink all but won't fill an empty heart. It's all within -- energy and matter, namaste and ohm, Myriad formulas, nostrums and prayer -- all roads lead home.

Bluegrass, metal, hip-hop, yacht rock...the sound is up to you. The story and the lyrics you need to incorporate should inspire or challenge your creativity. Don't say it can't be done, three Minnesotan musicians -- Best Friends Forever, P.O.S., and Jeremy Messersmith - already did it. To join the good company follow these steps:

1) Write a song inspired by "The Wizard of Oz," and use the four lines of lyrics written by Adam Levy.

2) Join our Minnesota Music group at Gather.com.

3) Publish your audio or video file to the group.
