I should edit that title to say, "and the less-than-obvious summer song mix." This week Bill DeVille and company talk about the latest releases from My Morning Jacket, Midnight Juggernauts, and Haley Bonar before asking:
"What's a less-than-obvious song - or artist - you might recommend that people put in their 'summer mix' in the iPod, because it's a summer favorite of yours?"
Let me stress the less-than-obvious point, because it is pretty easy to cobble together a playlist that includes or even features Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime." So which songs say summer to you, but might be overlooked by others? Some of the answers so far:
"Life is a Highway" by Tom Cochrane - Ginny H."Sunset Hymn" -- a really nice summer/change of seasons song by Scottish singer/songwriter Emily Smith; also Matt & Shannon Heaton, "If I Were a Blackbird;" Maura O' Connell, "Feet of a Dancer" - Kerry Dexter
"Here Comes Your Man" -Pixies [and] "Fallen From the Sky" -Glen Hansard (from the Once soundtrack). Features Casio beats, fun tune to have driving at night. - Joanna Z.
