Arriving in the wild western town of Stillwater

Posted at 8:45 AM on May 12, 2008 by Julia Schrenkler

Gail W transcribed her Grandmother's Minnesota arrival story and posted it to our group on Gather.com. This section captured my attention:

"I was born in 1856 and grew up in Buffalo, New York. We were a very close knit family so one could imagine how horrified we were to learn that our dear sister Margaret was to move with her husband to the wild western town of Stillwater, Minnesota."

The best part of history: Thinking of Stillwater as a wild western town. Join our online group to tell your Minnesota Arrival story.

Partisan friends

Politics are personal. We tie our values to our political choices. What happens then, when you have friends who identify with another political party? How does it affect your relationships?

Midday is airing Partisan friends, "A recent discussion at Minnesota Public Radio's UBS Forum explored how people with differing political views reach across ideological divides to maintain their friendships."

How do you find commonality with others, despite party politics?

Be a Budget Hero

Rescue the Federal Budget! Try your hand at being a Budget Hero.

The game gives you the chance to say exactly how you would balance the federal budget. Spend or tax according to your values, assess the pros and cons of each action, and earn badges for a successfully balanced budget.

You can also experiment with different ideas to see the effects of a different approach. If you let it roll as it is, the game will show how current government commitments will affect our future's bottom line.
