Tom Scheck reports Pawlenty is 'inclined' to back earlier fishing opener:
Gov. Tim Pawlenty said on his radio show on Friday that he would be "inclined to sign" legislation moving the opener forward by a week.
Pawlenty said there are several good reasons to change the opener.
Competing with neighboring states' tourism pull is one of them. Pawlenty was clear he wants to be certain an earlier date wouldn't conflict with fish spawning, in case you were wondering. I have to wonder how moving the date from perpetually landing on Mother's Day will affect family dynamics. But there are other aspects people might not be thinking of like the business of bait, or the boating industry. Help MPR cover this story.
