Are we what we read?

Posted at 8:06 AM on December 26, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

Midmorning 12/26 @ 9:00 a.m. talks about teen lit picks with Minnesota authors John Coy and David LaRochelle, both listed as recommended reading by teens. I checked out the full list of young adults' choices, and found books that are about adventure, loneliness, struggle, death, and relationships. It made me wonder if we are what we read, if what we read reflects us, or if we merely read to understand ourselves better. Probably all these reasons (possibly combined) and more.

What are young adults reading? What should they read? Join MPR's Minnesota Readers discussion group to talk about books.

Some blog entries and a feature to consider if you're considering the world of real estate:

* Is it that bad? (News Cut) Bob Collins posts single-family housing sales graphs...but read the fine print.
* Illegal Immigrants Good Mortgage Risk (NPR) From the text, "Surprisingly, illegal immigrants are often a good risk."
* Incomes and Housing Prices: Whoa.... (My Two Cents) Chris Farrell notes that it is "likely that residential real estate prices will stagnate for years."
