A little book about beer

Posted at 8:21 AM on December 19, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

Do you like books? Do you like beer? How about... books about beer?

Cathy Wurzer sat down with "Land of Amber Waters: The History of Brewing in Minnesota" author Doug Hoverson. He spoke of the strange mix of tradition, business expansion, and even how prohibition affected Minnesota's brewing industry. Sounds like the book is a history lesson people might enjoy...

Visit the feature Minnesota, land of 'Amber Waters' to catch the audio and see the image slideshow of breweries, saloons, and breweriana.

Live Chat with Santa on Gather.com

Posted at 9:27 AM on December 19, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

Dude Weather's Dutch already recorded his own message for Santa Claus, but hey, you might have a question - or comment - for he who bears gifts.

Yesterday Jennifer Hodge from Gather's editorial staff mentioned that Santa Claus is available for a live chat 12/19 @ 7PM ET / 6PM CT. [ETA: The transcript is available.] Jennifer works with me to coordinate online chats (Like Jim Lehrer and Amy Sedaris) but MPR can't take any credit for booking the bearded man in white & red less than a week from Christmas Eve. Scooped!

DNR taking comments on Lake Vermilion park proposal

Posted at 10:16 AM on December 19, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

According to Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources news release you can comment on the proposed state park at Lake Vermilion until December 31st.

Before you tell the DNR what you'd like them to accomplish and avoid in planning the park, I'd like to point out there's more than the DNR FAQ available. Check out related coverage from Minnesota Public Radio.

From MPR:
* DNR releases plan to pay for Lake Vermilion park
* The state of our state parks
* Locals praise, and question, Lake Vermilion state park proposal
* Governor proposes new state park

Minnesota Life discussion:
* Proposed: Lake Vermilion State Park
