Titles three: Blog entries with eye-catching titles

Posted at 8:10 AM on December 14, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

Come for the titles, stay for the writing on MPR Weblogs:

* How the glitch stole Christmas (News Cut)
* Here come the Daddy Wars (How's the Family)
* The Cockroach Theory of Finance At Work (My Two Cents)

For better or worse, celebrities endorse politicians

Posted at 1:06 PM on December 14, 2007 by Julia Schrenkler

MPR's Nicki Tundel is adding up the celebrity endorsements. Since there's plenty of attention on Oprah for Obama, let's look at the ones more likely to make one's head tilt in consideration:

* Chuck Norris palm strikes his support for Huckabee
* Donny and Marie for Romney
* Pat Sajak gives Fred Thompson the nod

Oh, and there's so many more in Tundel's feature. She also notes:

When asked if a celebrity endorsement would influence the way they vote, 78 percent of Americans said no.

Hmmm I'd like to see the language of the question. I suspect that most of us wouldn't admit a celebrity endorsement would cement our vote for a candidate, but I can imagine certain celebs might make some folks vote against a particular politician.

Voting ends tonight! Name your top CDs of 2007.

Submit your vote before midnight December 14th 2007 for a chance to win a 16 gig iPod Touch & 89 downloads, as well as give a shout-out for your favorite music. The Current will tabulate the results and start playing that top 89 starting at 10 a.m. on New Year's Day...sort of a bittersweet way to kick off 2008.

Discussion topics for the 12/14/2007 weekend

Don't be caught this weekend without a topic! My notes in italics.

Grammar Grater: Temptations of the Flush (Grammar Grater, MPR)
Who doesn't love to grapple over grammar? Take a straw poll of how people use or misuse the words "flesh" and "flush", and if that doesn't get the conversation going just ask them if they drink soda or pop.

Adding up the celebrity endorsements (MPR)
If a politician is good enough for a porn star, is the candidate good enough for you? Anyway, ask the people around you: Are there any celebrities that would inspire them to vote for someone? How about against someone?

E-mail scam targets holiday giving (MPR)
Find out if people you know fall for phishing or other fraudulent email scams...Or if they think there's an especially toasty place in the afterlife for con artists who pose as charities.

Share your own conversation-starters for opportunities to drop the latest buzz words, to break the ice with that shy neighbor, or to offer a friendly diversion for a favorite - and currently beleaguered - bank teller.
