Wow

Yes, it's 2:30 in the morning and I'm writing in the blog. I've got one more script to edit for our bridge collapse coverage for Morning Edition. I woke up a little while ago after a four hour nap, more than doubling my sleep for the past couple of days.
And now it's beginning to sink in. I've been lying here trying to do the math and I just can't get it right, but I think it's safe to say I've crossed that bridge hundreds of times in the last 40 years. Never once did I think it might fall; who would?
Some random thoughts:
*In an ideal world someone would've been keeping a running commentary going on the bridge news here or in some other MPR.org blog. But it's not yet an ideal world. We're still geared toward radio, and I'm proud of the coverage we have provided there. And the web coverage has been spectacular too, so I think we've supported our online audience well. I'm grateful that Melanie directed folks there in an earlier post here.
*I wish you could've watched the MPR News crew in action since Wednesday evening. I suppose in a way you have if you've been listening, but it's a special treat to watch this team behind the scenes. Dang, they're good. I'll try to post the names of everyone later today, because they've served you well and you should know who they are. If I try to do it now, I'll miss someone.
Well, so much for my second wind. Time for another nap before news intrudes.
