Thank you, thank you very much. Or not.

At this afternoon's editorial meeting, Midday assistant producer Larissa Anderson explained to us that all was not necessarily what it seemed to listeners tuned in to the show's two-hour broadcast from Carousel Park at the State Fair.

During the 11 a.m. hour, Gary Eichten was conversing with Sen. Amy Klobuchar. At times you'd hear applause that seemed to be in response to a question or comment. Well, it turns out, there was another politician being interviewed by another media outlet on a stage near the one where Midday was operating, and the applause was for something or another going on over there.

(UPDATE: Midday producer Sara Meyer explained to me that the KSTP audience wasn't just applauding the governor. Much of the applause was prompted to transition in and out of commercial breaks. You can tell I've never worked in commercial broadcasting - that never occurred to me, but it makes sense.)

True, and some of the applause was very well timed. Who was being interviewed at KSTP??

Admittedly the KSTP applause was pretty loud at some points. Still, we applauded Amy vigorously, too!

It was Gov. Pawlenty at KSTP.
