PiPress/Strib suit: "credibility of the media is in question"

Posted at 4:28 PM on April 18, 2007 by Bill Wareham

I guess I should pay closer attention to this spat between the Twin Cities daily newspapers. Ramsey County District Judge David Higgs clearly sees the dispute over what info former PiPress publisher Par Ridder took with him to the Star Tribune in grander terms than I have:

"I think you are all aware that the credibility of the media is in question here and that doesn't bode well for either of you," he told the two sides in a hearing today.

Seriously, I really hadn't considered this much more than a squabble of only minor interest to folks outside the news industry. But if it does somehow reflect on media credibility - and I'm not going to contradict Higgs here - then, well, to quote the judge "that doesn't bode well."
