Good luck, Dave
Posted at 3:49 PM on September 8, 2006 by Bill Wareham
MPR hasn't experienced a lot of retirements; the company was basically started by people in their 20s less than 40 years ago, and as it grew they tended to hire younger folks. So it was a little weird to head upstairs this afternoon to wish a happy retirement to Dave Schliep.
Dave has worked here the last 22 years in the Operations Department. The Ops staff is to MPR what press operators are to a newspaper. No matter how hard the journalists toil it's not going to matter if it doesn't get to the audience. Getting it to the audience is the role of Ops - to run the control boards and the satellite equipment and set up microphones for musical guests and so on.
That's just some of what Dave has done here the last 22 years, with a no-nonsense attitude that has brought order to situations where chaos would just as soon make a mess of things. We certainly don't thank the Ops staff enough, and we haven't thanked Dave enough.
So, thanks Dave and good luck.
