Sports blogs? How about some feedback?

After I mentioned the Bleacher Bums blog yesterday, worm1 asked:

any thought of doing a bench warmer blog?
It's related to a question I've been kicking around for awhile now - Is there an audience for MPR sports blogs, and if so, how should we address it?

My gut tells me there is an audience. That we don't cover sports like other media is more a function of priorities and limited resources than it is a consequence of antipathy toward sports. I look around the newsroom and see plenty of sports fans, and like in any workplace casual conversation often turns to the Twins, Vikings, Gophers and other teams (we do have some diehard Boston and Cleveland baseball fans in our midst). And my sense is that our audience has a similar level of interest.

I think the Bleacher Bums has reasonably tapped into this interest, but I don't feel like we fared as well with last winter's attempt at a college basketball blog, Shooting Hoops. Still, I'm left feeling like blogs are a good outlet for generating conversation about sports and conveying sports news.

What do you think? Should we try more of these? Perhaps we should have a single sports blog, rather than a different one for individual sports.
