CHAOS in the air? Stay tuned to find out
Posted at 5:29 PM on August 24, 2006 by Bill Wareham
Friday is a day of reckoning for Northwest Airlines and its flight attendants. A federal judge is scheduled to hear NWA's request to block any strike by the attendants. If he doesn't, the workers say they're prepared to strike as early at 9:01 p.m. CDT.
How will we know if they strike? Good question. They aren't preparing a standard walkout, opting instead for a strategy they've trademarked as Create Havoc Around Our System. Get it? CHAOS. They will/may target certain flights for action, things that could range from not providing attendants to leafletting passengers.
We've got a couple of stories in the works for Morning Edition on Friday, will provide updates on newscasts during the day and on All Things Considered. Then we'll be keeping an eye on things Friday night and through the weekend, working the phones and heading out to the airport to see what, if anything, is going on.
If you are traveling Northwest this weekend and encounter any CHAOS activity, please let us know. I'll be checking my email all weekend, bwareham@mpr.org.
