Mr. Wareham, your replacement is here

Posted at 12:34 PM on July 5, 2006 by Bill Wareham

I'm not ready to give up journalism just yet (I heard the collective sigh of disappointment out there), but it's going to happen to all of us in the business eventually. So, it's gratifying to see young people motivated to take up the craft. What got me thinking about my eventual replacement is the latest class of participants in the Urban Journalism Workshop at the University of St. Thomas.

The print stories from the workshop's 2006 crop of talented high school students are available here. But some of the students are doing something new and exciting this year - working up stories in an audio format. MPR News reporter Toni Randolph is working with these students to produce stories that will be available as podcasts in the next few days. I'll post the link when they're available.

And I'll try to keep the office clean for my successor.
