Radiohead: King of Limbs

Update

There's been a slight — but awesome — change in plans.

Since Radiohead released the album one day early, we're going to start playing tracks from it today (Friday February 18, 2011) every hour through Saturday night; then every other hour or so on Sunday.

New Radiohead video: Lotus Flower

Tracklist:

01 Bloom
02 Morning Mr Magpie
03 Little by Little
04 Feral
05 Lotus Flower
06 Codex
07 Give Up the Ghost
08 Separator

Here at the Current, we were excited as anyone to hear of the new Radiohead album. A new release from this band is always an event; and whether it's great (will probably take a few listens) or if it's terrible (as if!) we want to share it with our listeners...

And that's exactly what we're going to do. Starting at 10 am on Saturday, February 19, 2011 Friday, February 18th, we'll play a new track from The King of Limbs every hour until 6 pm on Sunday, (regular programming only; specialty shows are excluded).

So tune-in on Saturday Friday for an hour-by-hour King of Limbs unveiling, or as Program Director Jim McGuinn puts it: "How I learned to stop worrying about a $48 album I won't see for 3 months, won't hear till Saturday, but am still strangely excited to own."

And in the meantime, why don't you take a minute to tell us what's your favorite Radiohead studio album.

Can't wait to hear it; wish I could listen on Saturday but I'll surely just buy it as soon as possible.

Kid A is my all-time favorite Radiohead album; it really sold me on the group.

Between OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows, it's almost an impossible choice. It's hard enough to single out those three, but in the end, I have to say that Kid A is their best album to date...in my opinion. But other opinions can be easily understood.

I'm still partial to "The Bends"

Not sure how to describe it but on "Kid A" and even on "OK Computer" I'll find myself listening to a song and looking ahead to the next song at times.

Never do that on "The Bends"...love every track.

to quote the increasingly hilarious pitchfork:
"Kid A makes rock and roll childish. . . Comparing this to other albums is like comparing an aquarium to blue construction paper."

Amnesiac... Its so underrated. It has wierd songs but their so creative ( you have to really listen to all the little noises in the background) The songs on KID A and Amnesiac were written at the same time. Hail to the Theif also doenst get the recognition it deserves. Brilliant!!!

It's sad to see how eager the "alt-indie rock" media is to jump into any kind of new release by any of the "trendsetting" bands of our time. Sad and pathetic. Radiohead are an extremely talented band because they know how to exploit the PR. Morons like The Current will be salivating over this disc for months to come and manipulate information to make them look like they understand everything there is to understand about the band's music. Pathetic.

Gosh dude, you're right - because there's nothing inherently interesting or exciting about a new Radiohead release at all.

Wow Rowan, you must listen to some great radio stations out there that play the likes of the oh so intelligent Brittney Spears, and Christina "Can't-Get-the-National-Anthem-Right" Aguilera.

Then it makes perfect sense that you wouldn't have a clue about how interesting and exciting it is to have an incredibly clever band release a new album. At least they are able to write their own songs and music for God's sake. Stick to your radio station, we'll stick to ours...Peace

In Rainbows is just so epic. I think this is my favorite album of all time, I can still listen to those songs over and get goosebumps. Also their most romantic and narrative album.

In my opinion Kid A is not only Radiohead's best album but the best album of all time... hands down. In Rainbows is also fabulous.

Id like to respond to Rowan- good way to make a lot of enemies. I hope people dont figure out who you are... your an a**hole. The current is the only station to play any good wide variety of Radioheads music. You have a huge stick up your butt & I think the 17,000 people who just donated over a $1,000,000 would completely and utterly disagree with you. This may be hypocritical for me to say- but you can take your negativity trash talk somewhere else. I hope the crap music you listen to satisfies you. THANKS CURRENT

All of Radiohead's albums are complete gold. Every single one, all the ep's, 12" and all. But honestly, in my personal opinion, "The Bends" is my favorite. I've listened to that album from front to back many many many times. Lost myself in the simple hallucination of (nice dream), rocked myself to exhaustion to "Just", and yes, wished that I too was "Bullet Proof...". That album saved my life. And I'm sure there are many others who feel the same.

Hey, folks! I actually just finished a remix of "Codex" from the new album. It's all original, so feel free to check it out by clicking my link above.

I definitely love the direction the band headed on this record. Nothing will edge off "Hail To The Thief" for me, though. It's definitely grown on me the most.

After OK Computer, they have not had my attention.

@Rowan: ...and people like you will constantly belittle a band like Radiohead because it makes you feel like you are even smarter than the critics and fans like us. You think we are pathetic for feeling like we understand the band yet you pretend to be so smart that you can see through it all. Equally pathetic.

I was a big fan of "Creep" but never was engaged by the rest of the first couple discs. Ok Computer I feel is one of the greatest albums of our generation. For me up there with Let it Be (Replacements) and Achtung Baby. Please don't judge =). Kid A and Amnesiac are mesmerizing and Hail to the Thief is highly underrated. I like In Rainbows too but my only hope is for a little more edgy and up tempo stuff in the future.

"Please don't judge."

It's sad that you have to say that.

You like what you like.

"Pork and beans"...PERFECT.

Words to live by. The wisdom of the Weez!
