The expression 'brothers that fight like cats and dogs' seemed appropriate from the start for the combative Gallagher brothers of Oasis. Capable of both sheer brilliance (1994's debut Definitely Maybe, 1995's masterpiece Morning Glory from their peak) and stunning mediocrity (1997's admittedly drug-addled and sonically bloated Be Here Now), many wondered how they managed to stay together as long as they did as a band. With both Noel and Liam constantly quoatable and in the tabloid UK press for 10 years, Oasis became a defining band and of British rock and UK pop culture of the era. At times derided for their overt Beatles and classic rock influences, at the same time they brought a swagger and sheer excitement to a scene that had morphed into entertainerless shoegazing by the early '90s. And the power and beauty of the songs (mostly Noel's) was and is undeniable. While the 2009 backstage altercation breakup leaves mostly questions - what will Noel do next? Why is Liam calling his Oasis-minus-Noel band Beady Eyes? - this collection delivers answers. With highlights and singles culled from every era and album, and even the non-LP classic "Whatever," Time Flies is a great intro if you missed them the first time, or a nostalgia trip thru the catalog of what might have been the UK's last truly huge rock band.

Statement of intent "Supersonic"
A lad's love song "Wonderwall"
All you need is love, or "Whatever" from 1996, when Noel had so many great songs he didn't bother to put this one on an album
And 2008's final hurrah "The Shock of the Lightning"
You hit em on the head Jim. I have been a fan ever since high school ('97), when I was turned on to O during a rather impressionable time in my life. I wouldn't change it for the world. Their live shows are out of this world, even though they cost an arm and a leg.
I have bought the What's the Story Morning Glory CD three times and I still don't have it. It keeps disappearing into other people's collections. It's just one of those completely irresistible albums.
AWESOME!
I love you the current!
Sometimes I think my love for Oasis is stupid. They play big, dumb songs with almost no meaning. They weren't as musically talented as most of their peers (see Blur), to say nothing of the bands they copied. But then I find myself singing along with their big, dumb songs (especially Supersonic) and I think - yeah, I get this.
