Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees is 63.
Grant Lee Phillips is 46.

1956 - Elvis Presley bought his mother, Gladys, a pink Cadillac.
1989 - A judge in Dublin, Ireland, decided not to convict U2 bassist Adam Clayton of marijuana possession, even though he admitted to the crime. Clayton agreed to contribute money to a women's center in Dublin.
2007 - Supergrass were forced to put all plans on hold after band member Mick Quinn broke his back. The bass player and vocalist sleepwalked out of a first floor window of a villa where he was staying in the South of France.

Today in 1977, Blondie, featuring former Playboy Bunny Debra Harry, signed their first major record company contract with Chrysalis Records. Their self-titled debut record had been released the previous year on the small Private Stock records, but after Private Stock subsequently dropped them, Chrysalis picked them up and re-released the album the following year. From Blondie, we played "Rip Her To Shreds."

(updated below)

You might not know the electronica artist Moldover, but his profile is starting to rise considerably at the moment thanks to one of the more ingenious marketing gimmicks in recent memory. Just when fewer and fewer people are buying physical CDs themselves, Moldover has given you reason to buy one: he's put a real, working theremin inside the jewel box of his new release.

That's way cool, and it's got us thinking about theremins in general. What are some rock tunes that feature it? We're putting a set together, and would love your input too if you've got some favorites.

Update: Some of your requests we played:

1) The Pixies, "Velouria"
2) Mercury Rev, "Holes"
3) The Beach Boys, "Good Vibrations"

Now, imagine how we felt when we started listening closely to the Mercury Rev tune and thought, "Wait a minute ... is that a theremin or a musical saw?" Turns out it's the latter. Ah well; thanks to those who requested it, it's still an awesome song and we love playing it.

You may remember A.A. Bondy as the vocalist from the band Verbena. Here's a quick refresher on the band, their most well known song "My Baby Got Shot."

Verbena broke up in 2003 and Bondy returned to New York and started writing his own music. His debut solo album, American Hearts, was released on an indie label in 2007 and then re-released last year on Fat Possum records. A.A. Bondy's sophomore solo record, When The Devil's Loose was released today. In celebration of that, on our Song Of The Day podcast you can grab the title tune for free! If you're a new subscriber, you'll also receive new music from Jack Penate, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles, Amanda Blank and David Bazan.

Later this week we'll be featuring new music from Joe Henry, Volcano Choir and local music from Mark Mallman.
