Your taste in music defines your personality?!

Posted at 12:10 PM on September 6, 2008 by Bill DeVille (5 Comments)

I just read this piece about how your musical taste defines your personality.

Among other things, It mentions:

  • Fans of classical music and jazz are creative
  • Pop lovers are hardworking
  • Heavy metal listeners are gentle, creative types who are at ease with themselves. (What!)
  • Country and western fans were found to be hardworking and shy
  • Rap fans are outgoing
  • Indie lovers lack self-esteem and are not very gentle.
  • (this one hurts)
I guess it's not an exact science!

It might not hurt if your self-esteem was better!

Ha ha, that's funny. I disagree with the last comment about Indie lovers! But then again this probably started as an annoying forward that came from the same person that claims Bill Gates will give you thousands if you forward the email to 10 people.

I defiantly think music can define your personality but not in the way they are describing.

You can't trust anything any British publication says. Sorry Wheat, but it's true.

Um, yeah, "Lacks self esteem and aren't very gentle". This sounds like a precise scale to me.

This is one of those lame studies where he asks you a bunch of questions that are related to your personality, then play you a bunch of clips of music and then asks you what you think of them. It's clear he doesn't measure how creative people actually are, but instead how creative people THINK they are. It probably also considers hostile opinions as "not gentile", which indie fans certainly have. Indie fans probably had the most disdain for the test that they were taking.

Although I have to agree on the "lack of self-esteem" point, indie fans are more likely to be more critical of everything, including themselves.
