Band Names: More Complete Sentences Than Ever Before!

Posted at 11:09 AM on September 8, 2006 by Hans Eisenbeis (14 Comments)

At the present rate, bands with names that are full sentences will overtake the universe with all that extra verbiage by about 2010. By then, paper won’t exist anymore, so at least the Trouser Press Guide to Alternative Music won't have to worry about all that extra typesetting. Here are three more for the record:

  • Pretty Girls Make Graves
  • Love Is All
  • His Name Is Alive

As we buffer your stream, please take a moment to scribble down any other bands--old or new--that meet this highest standard in all of rock 'n' roll. And stick 'em in the comments, or stay under your invisibility cloak and send them to us here.

For your edification, the earlier threads:

    I'll play.
There was this band..I can't quite remember.."Girly Men with Masks..or somethin' like that..
I thought it was cool at the time.
However, I've matured now and think 'that's not eloquent enough for me.'

This is great! I'll dig up the link to previous thread, where we covered They Might Be Giants (inspired by wacky film of same name) and the more recently formed band that is a trifecta--They Shoot Horses Don't They (was a book AND a film; can be declarative or interrogative sentence... technically.... I guess....)

And an awesome discussion of Y Kant Tori Read--Tori Amos's first band!

yes! I am glad I wasn't the only one to notice this. I find most of the names, though, to be annoyingly verbose; any band name to whose end a period can successfully be affixed is suspect in my book. I also challenge someone to diagram my previous sentence.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
    Dogs Die in Hot Cars
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (can't believe no one mentioned this one before)
    Thunderbirds Are Now!
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness
    Why?

I just love pondering over band names! I enjoy hearing just how the name came about! I don't mind the " total sentence" names.... just one more quirky thing I love about indie music.

"...and you will know us by the dead "
didn'y they add the ...and later too? so before they really were a complete sentence.

    and
    I'm from Barcelona
