Packing for a trip

As I got ready to go out of town on a trip recently, it struck me that the things I pack as necessities have changed.
There are the perennials of course: washkit, underwear, socks. There are my own personal essentials: novels, a notebook (or two,) a camera, and my flashlight.
But now I find myself reaching for the DVDs too. Two or three, just in case I get snowed in somewhere, or stuck in an airport. It's just too easy. And better than what is offered for huge amounts of money in hotel rooms.
As a kid, I remember the excitement we had when my parents rented a projector for a birthday party and showed some black and white cartoons on a wall. It was a huge deal.
Times have changed. Now I can transport several hours of movie fun in a couple of jewel cases. Of course it will never beat sitting in a theater with large screen and an appreciative audience.
