The temperature is easing upwards and there is a sure sign of cinematic spring: the dates for the Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival have now been set: Thursday, April 16, through Thursday, April 30 at the St. Anthony Main Theatre in Minneapolis.
Details as they become available at the MSPIFF 2009 site. Currently the main thing on the site is the call for entries. It al;ways seems to come together however.
There is also an interesting sales pitch. The announcement declares the following (including an important qualifier): The biggest film event of the year in the Upper Midwest (Chicago northward, to Montana.)
The "biggest" remark seems like a weird thing to mention.
Besides, MN Film Arts really needs to get its act together.
They could do a way better job of year-round programming (which they've mostly abandoned), and much much more with promoting and building the festival.
