Strangely enough during my trip to Montreal last weekend, I flicked on the box during a quiet moment and came across "I'm Not There" dubbed into French. It was wicked strange to see all those people playing Bob Dylan when they were speaking English, but the French gave it that extra twist, particularly when it came to the Cate Blanchett parts.
At the time I thought it would be fun to see the film again, and now it seems the opportunity is at hand, and in an enhanced form.
Director Todd Haynes is coming to the Twin Cities next week to do a presentation with rock writer Greil Marcus who is teaching at the University of Minnesota this fall. Their chat will be at 5pm Wednesday 29th October in Nicholson Hall on the Minneapolis campus.
Marcus will then introduce a screening of the film at the Walker on November 1st (almost exactly a year since it was first shown there,) and lead a post screening discussion. Tickets are $8.
