Top strange story of the week (at least so far)

Posted at 10:11 PM on September 24, 2008 by Euan Kerr

In doing some interviews for the piece on the Manhattan Short Film Festival which will air tomorrow morning on MPR, I chatted with the Oak Street's Ryan Oestereich. He's pretty excited about the upcoming shows at the Oak, including all the French flicks in the next few weeks, startig with "Diva" this weekend.

He told me he had mentioned to Minnesota Film Arts Supremo Al Milgrom about how new prints of the films of Alain Robbe-Grillet were now available, Al muttered that he had a print of "Hiroshima Mon Amour."

Not a DVD. A print. The whole film. Oestereich thought Milgrom was kidding until following Al's directions he found the print in storage.

Thus "Hiroshima" made in 1959 will join the Robbe-Grillet retrospective next week. Al claims there are other films back there too, including prints of "The 400 Blows" and "Breathless."

Oestereich is still looking for those ones.
