Some additional thoughts from Herzog

Posted at 5:23 PM on July 7, 2008 by Euan Kerr (1 Comments)

The "Encounters at the End of the World" piece aired this morning, but as ever there was more stuff from my interview with Werner Herzog than I could fit in the piece.

Here are a couple of gems: when asked about the connections between his three most recent films "Rescue Dawn," "Incident at Loch Ness" and "Encounters" he says he didn't see any. In fact he denies that "Incident" is even a Herzog film, even though he is listed as a producer and scriptwriter in the credits. He claims it's really a Zac Penn film.

He explained his involvement this way: "The reason for that is simple. I love everything that is to do with cinema: writing, directing, editing, music, acting, including acting. So that's a film where I acted."

He began listing off the projects he has in coming months and complained mildly about he he didn't know how he was going to fit them all in. When asked about the secret to his prolific output and what he thinks about people who say it's hard to make movies nowadays he scoffed.

"I think making films is always somehow troublesome, but you have to have the perseverance. I do not buy the complaints. Today you can get hold of a small digital camera easily which produces very fine images and you can do a feature film for under $20,000. It is possible. So all these young people who are in the culture of complaint, I have one answer: don't complain any more. Just go out and do it. There's no more excuses.".

So there you have it.

I totally agree!!!

So we went out and did it. I am producing a movie that is due to come out next week, "Tales of the Dead". The world premiere is being held at the Heights Theater in Columbia Heights, next Thursday, 7/17/08 at 7 pm. Admission is the bargain basement rate of $5 per person.

So if anyone wants to come out and see some fun, scary and unique local film, come see our movie next week and support you local indie filmmakers! You never know we just might be the next big thing....

Thanks for the shameless plug too...

I really enjoy this forum.
