Special effects wizard Stan Winston died yesterday. Thanks to Michael Wells for passing along this link, where many people are paying tribute in their own special ways

Very sad to lose such a talent at such a young age. In his memory, I suggest renting _Pumpkinhead_, his first film as director. Don't be put off by the silly name--the story is dark and folkloric, and the creature is actually very elegant and menacing (the full-sized model currently lives in Anne Rice's house). And there's a lot of beautiful nighttime cinematography with moonlight effects that let you actually SEE what's going on, unlike so many recent films that are just bloody dark...
