Anthony Daniels love/hate relationship with a certain droid

I spent part of the early afternoon with Anthony Daniels this afternoon. He's here for the opening of the Star Wars exhibit at the Science Museum in St Paul. He's a really nice man, but admits to mixed feelings about playing C3PO. He likes the character, its the costume he doesn't like so much.

He showed me the picture which convinced him to take the part. It's of a robot which looks more like the evil robot from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis."

As we talked Daniels had a revelation. He said he never quite understood what it was which attracted him to the picture, and it was only today he realized it was the way the robot appears to be craving human interaction.
