One of the challenges of being a video nut is running into DVDs you want to watch but can't because of the region setting on your player. I have a growing collection of films which are really great but are set in the Western Europe region and so just make a worrying grinding noise when I slap them in the home machine.
Luckily I have been able to watch them on my laptop, which allows you to reset the region. Clearly someone on high in the computer world caught on though and limited the number of times you can switch the region. Sometimes I have no option but to watch North American region DVDs and so I've switched a few times and I was getting pretty low on my allocation.
I was contemplating the what this would mean once I ran out, when I realized I needed a new disc burner, and "Hey presto!" I'm back at four switches again. I got the burner for $30 so it all seems pretty much like a bargain.
