Pride comes before a fall - and results in a question

After being so smug yesterday morning, we went to a matinee of "Lars and the Real Girl' in the afternoon, and some dingbat (me) had misread the start time.

So we turned up five minutes before we thought the film was due to start and walked in to see the opening credits were already rolling. We were actually there 10 minutes after the real advertised time of the film.

No major harm done, but aggravating.

This got me thinking about a little project I have been working on. Over the past few months whenever I go to a theater I make a note of when the main feature begins. Like most people I tend to go to just certain movie houses because they are the closest to where I live.

I have found that there is a range of between 2 and 15 minutes between the advertised time and the time the main feature begins to roll.

What's useful is that most of the theaters routinely show about the same amount of pre-feature stuff (ads, trailers, and 'please turn off your crying baby' spots.) So with a little observation you can keep a useful list of when a film you want to see will really start at a particular theater.

So my question: does anyone else do this? And what's the longest you usually wait for a film to start?
