A couple of fun things crossed my desk this morning worth passing along:
Art Cars:The ArtCar Parade, one of the zaniest events of the Twin Cities arts calendar, happens this weekend. This year it will have a cinematic twist.
The Parade travels through South Minneapolis starting at 2pm Saturday and this year the guest of honor will be Harrod Blank, owner of the Camera Van. He has hundreds of cameras, both still and movie, affixed to the outside of his vehicle. Many of them are still operational, and he delights in taking pictures of people gawking at his verhicle.
Not only will he be in the parade, he will also show his newest artcar movie "Automorphosis" at Intermedia Arts on Friday evening. The show begins at dusk.
The movie follows Ryan's father Bill Foss in his quest to win the pumpkin competition at the Minnesota State fair, and to grow the biggest pumpkin in Minnesota history.
In addition to the usual stuff about the film, the dvd case includes a pumpkin seed lovingly marked with the weight of the pumpkin in which it grew, along with instructions on how to plant and cultivate it. Apparently this seed's pumpkin clocked in at 869 pounds. The 2006 record for a giant pumpkin was 1502 lbs.
Redgrave: Actor Lynn Redgrave will speak about her career and her battle with breast cancer at the Minnesota Center for Photography in Minneapolis on Thursday evening. Redgrave is the subject of "One on One" her daughter Annabel's photographic exhibition which chronicles Redgrave's treatment and recovery from breast cancer. More details at the MCP site.
