Calling all M*A*S*H fans: Listen out for ATC host Tom Crann's interview with Mike Farrell this afternoon. He'll be talking about his new book "Call me Mike" which describes his journey from his South St Paul birth, through TV stardom as B.J. Hunnicutt on 176 episodes of the hit show, through to his current life as an activist. He speaks this evening at the Central Presbysterian Church in St Paul.
Small world connection to "Flannel Pajamas" The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis is showing "Flannel Pajamas" a film written and directed by Jeff Lipsky (pictured right.)
He's the guy behind October Films and Lot 47 Films, making his name primarily as a distributor of independant movies. He set that aside a few years ago to become a director, saying he had retired from the distribution scene.
Like many other indie film makers he has been on the festival circuit with the film, and it was on one of those jaunts that he met St Paul director Ali Selim, and saw his film "Sweet Land." Despite strong response from festival audiences Selim had been unable to secure a distribution deal. This apparently irritated Lipsky and he came out of retirement to work "Sweet Land," helping it to become one of the sleeper hits of last year. Anyway, now Twin Citians have a chance to see the film that he was showing when he met Selim.
Craig Ferguson on "Grindhouse" Due to circumstances too tedious to recount I found myself watching late night TV the other night and caught Craig Ferguson's interview with "Grindhouse" co-director Robert Rodriguez While they both seemed to be having fun, it was remarkable how little information there was about the film itself.
There was one good line though: Ferguson told Rodriguez that Rose McGowan (she of the machinegun leg recently plastered over all known media) had been on the show the night before.
"Don't worry about her leg though," he assured Rodriguez, "It grew right back."
