Gleanings: Monday ("Assassination" and Bemidji)

The Oak Street Cinema has grabbed an exclusive and will open the highly controversial Gabriel Range film "Death of a President." The film which won the International Film Critics Award at the Toronto International Film Festival this year depicts the assassination of George Bush. Director Range uses a combination of live action and digital manipulation to create his tale. The film has already aired on Channel 4 in the UK where it generated mixed reactions from viewers. Let the debate begin as to whether this is thought-provoking drama, exploitation, and/or entertainment....

I'm told there's an e-mail campaign underway by the folks in Will Weaver's hometown of Bemidji to get "Sweetland" shown at the local movie house. Weaver wrote the short story "A gravestone made of wheat" on which the movie is based.

This is just plain interesting
