Director Jamie Babbit and actor Elisha Cuthbert came by the MPR studios today to talk about their new film "The Quiet" which goes into release September 1st.
It's a drama about what happens when a seemly normal suburban family, which includes the snarkily popular cheerleader Nina (Cuthbert) adopts a deaf mute teenager called Dot.
It turns out that the family all has some dark secrets which they confess to Dot. As you can imagine, things get nastily complicated very quickly.
I'd wanted to talk to Babbit (pictured left) who caused a stir with her dark comedy "But I'm a Cheerleader."
We chatted for about 20 minutes today and then came for the obligatory photo for the web. Jamie Babbit was closest and so I lined up the camera on her first. She suddenly reached forward for the camera and said, "Well I can take your picture, if you want."
This seemed a little strange, as I have little use for a picture of me.
We looked at each for a few moments and then she blurted out, "Oh, I thought you wanted a picture of you with Elisha. That's what people usually want."
And that's when I remembered Cuthbert (pictured right) was in "House of Wax," "The Girl Next Door" and literally 70 episodes of "24."
I quickly assured here that I just needed pictures of them both. By themselves. Without me.
Jamie Babbit laughed so hard she started crying.
