I have had a couple of intriguing conversations with a friends asking me if they should see "Brokeback Mountain." They had initially decided not to go. It wasn't that they were concerned about the storyline, but they'd decided the film must be schmaltzy and over-the-top after seeing the treatment in the trailer.
I must admit I felt the same way, and was pleasantly surprised to find I was wrong when my beloved dragged me along to the theater. I wasn't overwhelmed however, perhaps because I couldn't believe that the two central characters could live such a tormented existance for so long without finding a better way to communicate with each other about their relationship.
