My Facebook Friend: Star Trek, status updates, and online consistency

At last, the second in our now-occasional series, wherein I meet and interview people (whom I don't actually know) who friend me on Facebook. (The first installment was a professional wrestler named SpiderBaby.)

Interview (starts with a Star Trek question):

This time it's Hal Bichel, a soon-to-graduate senior at the University of Minnesota. We talked for a long time at a coffee shop near campus...a good chunk of it was about Star Trek and World of Warcraft (her Facebook profile features pictures of her as characters from both worlds) and the fear of jumping out into such a nasty economy (Hal's dream job: Video editor).

But the conversation took a surprising and personal turn when I asked about the blue streak in her hair. You'll have to listen from here...wouldn't make sense for me to write it all out.

Hal's also a poet -- she recited one of her poems for me, and I'm hoping to include that in the next podcast as well.

Hal, thanks for being so open with your thoughts and experiences. Good to get to know you a little better!

I just happened upon this feature and am in awe of Hal--she is, indeed, awesome. I'm glad the U provided a place for her to sort things out for herself and be strong in her sense of self. Bravo, Hal!
