NewsTune: Wise Latina Woman

Posted at 12:20 PM on July 15, 2009 by Jeff Horwich (0 Comments)

Our new tune, faster than a speeding Senate Confirmation Hearing!

Such a catchy phrase, so ubiquitous, couldn't get it out of my head. It deserved its own song.

Just me and a piano this time (with Sanden helping out with another camera, aside from the usual gripping webcam shot).

Want to download this one? Here's a link to the MP3.

(And here are some additional keywords, just cuz we like to turn up in search engines: Sonia Sotomayor, Supreme Court, confirmation hearing, Berkeley speech.)

Economic indicators: Cat-sitting, bad spelling, and corporate run-around

Posted at 5:52 PM on July 15, 2009 by Jeff Horwich (0 Comments)

Following up on people who answered our recent question about what signs they're looking for to feel confident the recovery is underway. Among the most interesting:

* A woman who is seeing a pick-up in bookings for cat-sitting (which means people are going on vacation)
* A woman looking for worck, but not finding the write openings (sic)
* A guy who reported a lack of "serious customer commitment to production orders, forecasts, and schedules" (What???)

Sanden's out getting tape from the cat lady at the moment, but I called the second two this afternoon...

This'll be in the next podcast. This is kind of an ongoing question...don't by shy about sending us your own thoughts.
