Far Side comics come to life

Some people have too much time on their hands . . . lucky for us, those people also have flickr accounts. A group of folks well versed in the works of Gary Larson, and in photoshop, bring you . . . The Far Side Re-enactments.

Some of them are pretty funny, but for the most part, I don't think Far Side translates that well into real life. Of course, that's not true of all comic re-enactments. There is the wonderful Lasagna Cat series where one man with a wig and another in a Garfield costume recreate classic strips. And for the superhero fans among us . . . the Marvel Secret Wars Re-Enactment Society? Um, just click the link.

And there seems to be a growing body of work around imaging cartoon characters as real people. Like this "Real Life Family Guy" photo album. Or this Simpson opening credits filmed with real people.

I'm not sure where this drive to recreate cartoons using actual people comes from. Maybe some folks just like a challenge. Maybe we spend so much time with these characters that they seem real enough that imagining them as flesh and blood isn't much of a stretch . . . Or maybe some people just have a lot of time on their hands.
