Choosing Palin: Stupid like a Fox?

She's a hockey mom. She's a pro-lifer. She's a beauty queen. She's pro-oil. She's an newbie. She will soon be a grandmother. She may already be one in secret. She's a . . . well, a "she". (photo by Joe Raedle / Getty Images)

Photo by Joe RaedleGetty Images 2.jpgNo matter how you see her, Sarah Palin adds a TON of variables to this ever changing election. Will women embrace her or see this as pandering to their gender? Will conservatives back her or is she too far right? Will fans of 30 Rock vote for her or Liz Lemon? Questions abound!

The funny thing is, Sarah Palin has sent the press in a tizzy. Depending on who you read, she's either the smartest or the dumbest choice possible. One thing's for sure though, people aren't neutral about her.

Maybe that was the intention. In an election where political fatigue threatens to set in at any moment, throwing a firecracker into the mix might have been genius after all.

And if she does end up polarizing the public, McCain may finally get his base to feel as riled up as the Democrats have been feeling for months now.

Political plotter Karl Rove recently remarked: "We'll get a taste in the next five days of how well she does in the 62 days that follow."

If the buzz this weekend is any indication, the next 62 days are going to be real interesting.

Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman arrested at RNC protest

Posted at 6:39 PM on September 1, 2008 by Sanden Totten (45 Comments)

Hours after the main march ended, spurts of protest were still popping up throughout the city of St. Paul. Groups of dissenters made their way around downtown, often followed by cops . . . as well as by the media.

One crew in the midst of it was the group from the show Democracy Now! Details are still sketchy, but it's been confirmed that the crew, along with the show's politically outspoken host, Amy Goodman, have been detained. The stated reason seems to be the recent police favorite "probable cause for riot."

Was the 51 year old host really about to start smashing the state as the charge claims? Or was she just in the wrong place at the wrong time? You be the judge. You can hear the tape of her arrest here (language advisory! bad words). It's hard to tell what she did, but the crowd freaks out when it happens:

"They're arresting Amy Goodman?" "What are you guys doing!?! You can't arrest Amy Goodman!" "Let her go!" "We love you Amy!"

* UPDATE * Here is the video of her arrest. Note, all she appears to be doing is crossing police line.

Now though, Goodman and her crew have been released.
As for the arrests, she was charged with Obstruction. There are Felony Riot Charges pending against Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar, her producers. A rough day for the whole crew, I imagine. And it doesn't make the police of St. Paul look too good either.
