So, trying to rev up my inspiration for this next show I poked around some of the online career tests the other day.
This one wanted to know whether I enjoy solitary walks, and whether I prefer to experiment or follow traditional approaches. A few dozen questions later, it told me I should be either a Feng Shui consultant, veterinarian, sports photographer, or rock star.
I'll take rock star, thank you very much. ("News Anchor" was a ways down the list...)
I paid for another one, which was more concerned with telling me what kind of person I was, and then left me swimming in a huge pile of jobs that might match up. Too much work!
Then there was this free, rinky-dink one, which was perhaps the most fun of all. Change your favorite movie from "Billy Madison" to "Star Wars" and you magically transform from a teacher to a computer engineer!
Feng Shui it is.
I remember doing those tests in high school - I think they were pretty useless.
Nothing beats job shadowing, or actually doing an internship.
Still, the biggest obstacle to doing what you love? That might be in influences of other people.
