We had a great crew out for our monthly get-together last night in Minneapolis, with a few old friends and a bunch of new faces. This time we ordered more than enough appetizers -- hope some of you grabbed a hunk of cheese for the road!
The conversation was pretty much non-stop, and I hardly had to do much to keep it going. We covered a lot of ground within the realm of how our communications technology might be changing who we are as human beings.
Is the ability to find factoids on the Internet in a flash making us smarter by giving us the ability to research and start new conversations with friends -- as one person suggested? Or is it making us lazy and potentially prone to misinformation? Are our iPods and Blackberries turning us inward? Or are they just indulging our basic human need to connect and communicate -- only in different ways?
We've now got to figure out how we can take a great conversation like this and translate it into a radio show in a couple weeks. We'll be casting out for ideas and stories pretty soon -- stay tuned!
